This collection begins with Mexico. Not only as a place, but as a memory, a wound, a color, and a feeling that continues to live inside me. Mexico is the saturated markets of Oaxaca, the smoke and noise of food being cooked in the streets, the greens of the countryside, the volcano Popocatépetl in Puebla, walking with my mother through the Zócalo, and the warmth of family. But it is also the loss of my father, highways lit on fire by cartels, being robbed at gunpoint more than once, the feeling of danger becoming part of everyday life, and the loneliness that stayed with me long after I left. For years, many of these memories felt impossible to return to. Some remained clear, almost like water. Others disappeared completely. Many existed somewhere in between, softened by time, fragmented by loss, and reshaped by distance. Living far from Mexico gave me the silence to look back. In that distance, artificial intelligence became more than a tool. It became a journal, a mirror, a therapist, a friend, and a creative partner. Through it, I found a way to revisit places I cannot easily return to, and to give form to memories that felt fleeting, fragmented, and diffused. Before this collection, much of my work with memory came through expired film. Its grain, scratches, faded tones, and unpredictable imperfections which may look like flaws to some, but to me they have always felt like witnesses of time. They carry the pace of living, the fragility of the body, and the imperfect nature of human experience. In these marks, I see a reflection of the human condition: we change, fade, break, heal, and carry the traces of time with us. What appears imperfect becomes evidence of something having lived. This collection is an evolution of that search. If expired film allowed me to see the physical traces of time, artificial intelligence has allowed me to explore the inner texture of memories. Not how they looked, but how they have survived inside me. Mexico often demanded speed, adaptation, and survival. So much happened with such intensity that there was not always space to pause, understand, or look back. From afar, I began to see these memories differently. Not as exact images, but as emotional landscapes. The works are not reconstructions of the past. They are traces of what remains after time, beauty, fear, longing, and loss have passed through life. My hope is that others can enter these abstract spaces through their own memories and recognize something familiar. Not only what a moment looked like, but how it felt.
